Afrobeats star Davido has dismissed reports that hoodlums attacked the convoy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo, describing the incident as an unrelated fight outside the palace of the traditional ruler.

Reports had claimed that a gun battle broke out between suspected hoodlums and security personnel attached to the governor’s convoy at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, on Wednesday.

The reported incident happened shortly after Adeleke received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission and visited the monarch to celebrate his victory in the Osun State governorship election.

Davido, who is the governor’s nephew, took to his verified X account on Wednesday evening to challenge the reports and insisted that the disturbance had nothing to do with Adeleke or his entourage.

“Lies! It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us. The people love his excellency,” the singer wrote.

The clarification comes as Adeleke continues activities following his re-election in the August 15 governorship poll. The governor secured 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes, according to the election results.

Davido’s statement effectively disputes the initial account that the disturbance represented an attack on the governor’s convoy, while reaffirming the atmosphere of support surrounding Adeleke during his post-election engagements.
