Ilorin Building Collapse: Four Dead, Four Rescued as Search Operation Continues

Four people have died after a three-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, Kwara State, with emergency responders continuing efforts to search the rubble for possible survivors.

The building, located at No. 41 Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque in the Ile Oyan Masalasi Gogoro area, collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday.

Kwara State Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed that four bodies had been recovered from the debris while four other people were rescued alive.

“Based on the situation report, now we’ve recovered four people dead and rescued four people alive,” Adekunle said.

The latest figures followed earlier reports that at least six people, including two children, had been pulled alive from the collapsed structure. The casualty figures could change as rescue teams continue to clear the site.

Fire Service personnel and local residents have been working together to search through the debris and reach anyone who may still be trapped beneath the building.

An excavator was brought to the scene to remove heavy sections of the rubble and provide access to areas that could contain additional victims. Emergency officials have yet to establish how many people were inside the building when it collapsed.

The cause of the collapse is also yet to be determined. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish what led to the failure of the three-storey structure.
