Osun Election: Davido Mocks Police Over Officers Allegedly Stranded Weeks After Poll

Afrobeats star Davido has taken a swipe at the Nigeria Police Force over reports that some officers deployed to Osun State for the August 15 governorship election are still stranded in the state weeks after the poll.

The singer reacted to the report on his verified X account, questioning whether the officers had remained in Osun because they failed to deliver the electoral outcome expected of them.

“Could it be because dem no deliver?” Davido tweeted.

The officers were reportedly drawn from different Mobile Police Force squadrons and deployed to Osun as part of the security arrangements for the governorship election.

However, reports indicate that weeks after the election ended, the officers had not been withdrawn to their original formations and were still staying in different camps across the state.

Davido had openly supported Governor Ademola Adeleke, his uncle, during the election campaign. His latest comment therefore comes against the backdrop of his public backing for the incumbent.

Adeleke was declared winner of the closely contested election, securing 511,067 votes and winning 19 local government areas, while his All Progressives Congress (APC) challenger, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes and won 11 local government areas.

The reported continued deployment of the officers has raised questions about why they have not returned to their respective formations after the election. Davido’s comment has added a celebrity voice to the growing public discussion.

There has been no indication in the report that the police have officially linked the officers’ continued stay in Osun to the election result, making Davido’s remark a pointed political taunt rather than a confirmed explanation.
