Ebonyi Airport Allegedly Turned Into Worship Centre as Commercial Flights Remain Absent — CSO

The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport in Ebonyi State has allegedly been turned into a worship centre by a church, according to the spokesperson for the Ebonyi Civil Society Coalition Group, Charles Otu.

Otu made the claim on Thursday during an appearance on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, where he was asked about the current state of operations at the airport.

He alleged that the facility currently has no commercial flights operating from it, claiming that the only flights using the airport are private chartered aircraft allegedly carrying Governor Francis Nwifuru and his wife.

“It is good you remembered the airport because I would have forgotten it,” Otu said before outlining his claims about the facility.

The civil society spokesperson alleged that a church now holds Sunday and midweek services at the airport, effectively turning part of the facility into a place of worship. He said videos showing the alleged activities could be provided as evidence.

Otu further claimed that, beyond the alleged private chartered flights used by the governor and his wife at public expense, no other private or commercial aircraft are currently using the airport. He described the situation as an unfortunate reflection of the facility’s current state.

“A church has taken over that airport and is using that airport for Sunday and midweek services. The airport has become a worship centre,” Otu said.

He reiterated that the alleged use of the airport for religious gatherings was, in his view, an indication of the facility’s limited activity. Otu’s comments, however, were allegations made during the television interview, and no independent verification of the claims was provided in the report.
