Ondo Labour Leaders Endorse Tinubu for 2027, Back Tunji-Ojo’s Mobilisation Drive

A coalition of labour leaders in Ondo State has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, citing the administration’s policies on workers’ welfare, infrastructure and fuel subsidy removal.

The endorsement was announced in Akure during a programme organised by the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), where veteran labour figures said they were satisfied with what they described as the impact of the Tinubu administration.

President of Labour for Good Governance in Ondo State and former Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Solomon Adelegan, described the current administration as the most worker-friendly in recent history.

Adelegan also praised the Federal Government’s infrastructure projects and the Ministry of Interior under Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He specifically highlighted reforms in passport processing, claiming that applicants can now receive their passports within weeks rather than waiting months or years.

“The President and his cabinet have been able to bring it down to the lowest minimum. When we also look at the ongoing infrastructure and road construction, no government in Nigeria has done well as President Tinubu,” Adelegan said.

Former Ondo State NLC Chairman, Comrade Bosede Daramola, also backed the president, arguing that the removal of fuel subsidy had changed the economic landscape and increased the resources available to state governments. She said governors should now be able to meet salary and gratuity obligations with improved revenue allocations.

Daramola further commended Tinubu’s approach to security and infrastructure, saying the administration’s performance had influenced the labour group’s decision to support his re-election bid.

Director-General of the Asiwaju Mandate Group, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, said the endorsement was voluntary and not sponsored. He, however, disclosed that Interior Minister Tunji-Ojo had sponsored the group’s series of endorsement activities involving different groups, including people living with disabilities.

Asagunla said Ondo has about two million registered voters but typically records only between 400,000 and 500,000 actual voters during elections. He said the group would focus on voter education and mobilisation ahead of 2027, while stressing that voters have the right to retain or remove elected officials based on their performance.

Tinubu was presented with an award for exemplary leadership at the event, while Tunji-Ojo also received recognition for his role in grassroots mobilisation. The labour coalition pledged to campaign for Tinubu and mobilise support across Ondo State’s 18 local government areas ahead of the 2027 election.
