Peter Obi Marks 65th Birthday With Free Surgeries for 65 Children

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has marked his 65th birthday by sponsoring 65 free surgeries for children at Mother Mary Hospital in Isolo, Lagos.

Obi disclosed the initiative on Thursday through a post on his official X account, sharing a video from the hospital where he was seen with some of the children and their parents or guardians.

The surgeries, which have now been completed, were carried out as part of Obi’s 65th birthday initiative. The procedures included adenotonsillectomy, a surgery used to remove enlarged or chronically infected tonsils and adenoids that can contribute to breathing difficulties, recurrent infections and sleep-related problems in children.

The medical procedures were led by Dr Folaseye Adebayo and her team. Obi said he attended the final follow-up clinic and appreciation programme at the Lagos hospital, where parents spoke about improvements in their children’s health and quality of life.

“Yesterday, I attended the final follow-up clinic and appreciation programme at Mother Mary Hospital, Isolo, Lagos, following the successful completion of 65 free surgeries for children to mark my 65th birthday,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor expressed gratitude to God, the medical team, hospital management, parents and others who contributed to the initiative. He also described the birthday project as an opportunity to give back rather than simply celebrate.

Obi said birthdays should provide an opportunity to touch lives and make a meaningful difference, adding that he was grateful for the opportunity to be part of an initiative that gave the 65 children improved health prospects.

He concluded his message with his familiar political slogan, saying: “May God continue to bless all those who dedicate their lives to saving and improving the lives of others. A New Nigeria is POssible.”
