NBF-Pro Launches Free Legal Service for Nigerian Professional Boxers

The professional arm of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, NBF-Pro, has launched a 30-day free legal service to help professional boxers tackle exploitative and conflicting contracts with promoters and managers.

The initiative, established in partnership with Emoni Sports Law as the federation’s official legal advisory chamber, is aimed at resolving contractual disputes that may have stalled the careers of Nigerian boxers at home and abroad.

NBF-Pro said the service would be available at no cost to professional boxers during the 30-day window. It will also educate athletes on how to identify potentially harmful agreements before signing them.

As part of the programme, participating boxers will receive a contract audit covering existing agreements with promoters and managers. The review will seek to identify conflicting obligations, illegal clauses and cases involving multiple or concurrent contracts.

The scheme will also provide legal guidance to boxers on how to lawfully terminate or harmonise multiple agreements where necessary.

NBF-Pro said the legal team would further conduct compliance checks on future contracts to ensure they meet the standards of the Nigeria Boxing Federation, the National Sports Commission and World Boxing.

Interested boxers have been advised to contact NBF-Pro through its official channels and submit copies of their existing local and international contracts during the 30-day period to qualify for the free service.

NBF-Pro chairman, Azania Omo-Agege, described the initiative as an important step towards protecting boxers and educating them about their contractual rights.

He commended the leadership of the Nigeria Boxing Federation for its ongoing reforms, saying the legal framework would address contract-related challenges that have affected the career progression of athletes.

“The legal framework designed to support our boxers will bring an end to all kinds of contract issues that may have inhibited the career trajectory of the athletes,” Omo-Agege said.

The federation said the initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen professional boxing in Nigeria and ensure athletes are better protected when entering agreements with promoters and managers.
