2027: Patience Ozokwo Backs Peter Obi, Says Nigeria Has Failed to Maximise Its Resources

Nollywood veteran actress Patience Ozokwo has publicly expressed support for Peter Obi ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, saying the country has abundant resources but has struggled to turn them into broad prosperity.

Ozokwo, popularly known as Mama G, spoke at a gathering held under the banner “Celebrities for Peter Obi,” where she discussed her concerns about the state of the country and the need for political change. Her endorsement is part of the growing public debate around the 2027 election.

“I see this country as a spoiled child,” the actress said, arguing that Nigeria has been endowed with significant natural resources but has not made the most of them.

She said other countries with a fraction of Nigeria’s resources could potentially achieve more, adding that the country’s challenges cannot be separated from how its resources are managed.

Ozokwo also criticised the concentration of wealth among a section of Nigerians while many others continue to struggle. She said some individuals had accumulated wealth that could provide for several generations of their families.

The actress further urged celebrities attending the event to recognise the influence that comes with their public visibility. She said their public image and integrity give them a platform to contribute to conversations about the country’s future.

“Celebrities here, what we have, we have our faces. We have our integrity,” Ozokwo said.

Her comments come as political activity and public endorsements intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Peter Obi was ratified as the Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate in May and later named Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
