Police Tighten Security in Anambra Schools as New Academic Session Begins

The Anambra State Police Command has stepped up security operations around schools and other strategic locations across the state as students return for the new academic session.

The enhanced deployment is part of measures under the Inspector-General of Police’s Safe School Initiative, aimed at protecting pupils, students, teachers and other members of the school community.

The command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this on Wednesday, saying the exercise was being coordinated under the supervision of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo.

According to Ikenga, police personnel, sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders have been deployed to designated schools and strategic locations across the state.

He said the operation is designed not only to strengthen security around educational institutions but also to educate pupils and students on personal safety and security awareness.

The police are also assisting schoolchildren with safe road crossing and providing other policing services to help maintain a safe and conducive environment for learning.

Ikenga said the command was using the exercise to deepen cooperation among police officers, school authorities, teachers, parents, guardians, host communities and other stakeholders.

He added that personnel deployed to schools had been instructed to maintain a visible presence, monitor activities within and around school premises, assist students during peak arrival and closing periods, and respond quickly to emerging security concerns.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting children, teachers, school authorities and other members of the school community.

He urged school authorities, parents, guardians and students to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, activities or emerging security threats to the police or other appropriate security agencies.
