Spain Coach Luis de la Fuente Set to Extend Contract Until 2032

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente is set to sign a new contract that will keep him in charge of the national team until 2032, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Monday.

The new deal will cover the next two European Championships in 2028 and 2032, as well as the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

De la Fuente, 65, took over as Spain’s senior coach in 2022 after the departure of Luis Enrique. Since then, he has guided the team to the 2023 UEFA Nations League title, Euro 2024 glory and the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The coach previously spent about a decade working with Spain’s youth teams before being promoted to the senior national side.

RFEF board chairman Rafael Louzan said the federation wanted to secure De la Fuente’s long-term future after his achievements with the national team.

“We’re talking about the most successful head coach in the history of the national team,” Louzan said, adding that De la Fuente had spent 14 years with the federation.

De la Fuente’s new contract is expected to take him through three major international tournaments: Euro 2028, the 2030 World Cup and Euro 2032.

Spain are preparing for their first matches since their World Cup triumph. They are scheduled to face England on September 26 before hosting Croatia three days later in Seville in the Nations League.

The team will then play the Czech Republic in Oviedo on October 3 before travelling to Croatia for another Nations League fixture three days later.
