2027: Isaac Fayose Claims Peter Obi Would Win Abuja Easily

Social commentator and businessman Isaac Fayose has claimed that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, would win the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) if the 2027 presidential election were held in Abuja.

Fayose made the claim on Tuesday during an appearance on News Central TV, while responding to comments by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike about the opposition’s strength in the nation’s capital.

Wike has argued that the 2027 presidential contest would be straightforward for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), saying President Bola Tinubu would secure victory in both Rivers State and the FCT.

Fayose disputed that position and insisted that Obi and the NDC have significant support in Abuja.

“Abuja is NDC, Abuja is Peter Obi,” Fayose said.

His comments come as political parties and opposition groups intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with Abuja emerging as an important battleground for competing political interests.

Fayose has recently made other claims about the NDC’s prospects, including an allegation that five APC governors are secretly supporting the opposition party. He has not publicly identified the governors, and independent verification of the alleged arrangement has not emerged.

He has also criticised the APC over its reported decision to have Wike coordinate campaign activities in Rivers State and the FCT, arguing that the move would not weaken support for the NDC or the wider Obidient movement. Those remarks were political assertions by Fayose and do not establish the eventual electoral outcome.

The contrasting positions from Wike and Fayose reflect the growing political contest over Abuja ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with parties and candidates seeking to build support across the FCT and other key areas.

The 2027 election is scheduled to determine Nigeria’s next presidential mandate, but claims about which candidate will win remain political predictions rather than established outcomes.
