Police Disrupt Enyimba Training as Club Crisis Deepens After Third Straight Loss

Enyimba’s difficult start to the new Nigeria Premier Football League season has taken another turn after police officers reportedly disrupted the club’s training session in Aba on Monday.

The incident came less than 24 hours after the nine-time Nigerian champions suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Inter Lagos, leaving them without a point from their opening three league matches.

Reports indicate that Enyimba Sporting Director, Daniel Eke, arrived at the training ground alongside officers of the Rapid Response Squad, leading to the disruption of the session.

Some club officials were reportedly taken away from the training facility following the intervention, leaving players and other officials uncertain about what was happening.

PUNCH reports that club chairman Kanu Nwankwo subsequently led some of the players to the Rapid Response Squad office as the situation unfolded.

The latest development is reportedly connected to an ongoing dispute within the club, with disagreements over sporting and technical appointments contributing to tensions around the team.

However, the precise reason for Monday’s police intervention remains unclear. Enyimba had not issued an official statement explaining the incident at the time of reporting.

The disruption comes at a difficult moment for the Aba-based club, which has struggled badly on the pitch since the start of the campaign. Their defeat to Inter Lagos was their third consecutive loss, leaving them still searching for their first league points.

Enyimba are scheduled to host Sporting Lagos on Wednesday, with the club under pressure to arrest its losing run while also dealing with the growing uncertainty away from the pitch. For the former champions, the pressure is now coming from both sides of the game.
