Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison in New York

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York after being convicted of sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006.

Haley addressed the court before sentencing, describing the lasting impact of the assault and the years of fear and scrutiny she experienced while seeking justice.

“Being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away,” Haley told the court.

She added that speaking publicly about the case had continued to affect her life, saying, “It’s a life sentence for me.”

Weinstein, 74, maintained his innocence and asked the court for leniency. He expressed remorse over the pain Haley experienced but insisted that he did not commit the offence.

“I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” Weinstein told the judge.

The sentence followed a retrial after Weinstein’s original 23-year New York conviction was overturned by the state’s highest court in 2024.

During the retrial, Weinstein was convicted over the charge involving Haley but acquitted of a separate sexual assault charge involving former model Kaja Sokola. Jurors were unable to reach a verdict on a rape charge involving Jessica Mann.

Weinstein is also serving a separate 16-year sentence in California following a rape conviction.
