37-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Alleged Rape of 70-Year-Old Woman in Edo

A 37-year-old man has been arrested in Edo State over the alleged rape of a 70-year-old woman in Igueben, police said.
The Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest while briefing journalists on its operational activities during the past week.
Police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the suspect remains in custody as detectives conduct an investigation into the allegation. She said the case would be handled in line with the law.
The police did not disclose the identities of either the suspect or the woman involved in the case.
Authorities have also not provided details about when the alleged incident occurred or the circumstances that led to the suspect’s arrest.
The allegation has not been established by a court, and the suspect remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty through due legal process.
The police said investigations are continuing and that the suspect would be prosecuted if the evidence gathered supports charges at the conclusion of the investigation.
