2027: Amaechi Says Tinubu Presidency Is ‘Choice of Death’, Urges Nigerians to Back Atiku

African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi has sharply criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing the 2027 presidential election as a choice between “life” and “death.”

Amaechi, who is the running mate to ADC presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday. He urged Nigerians to support the ADC ticket, arguing that Atiku represents what he described as the “choice to be alive.”

“We don’t have two choices but just one to make: the choice to be alive, because Tinubu’s presidency is the choice of death,” Amaechi said.

The former Rivers State governor linked his criticism to the rising cost of living, particularly transport, housing, food and medicines. He argued that increases in income were being eroded by higher living expenses and taxes.

Amaechi cited the example of workers earning N70,000 monthly, saying transport costs alone could consume most of their income in some cases. He also claimed that house rents had risen sharply and questioned how ordinary Nigerians could cope with the cost of essential medicines.

He further challenged the Tinubu administration over petrol prices, saying he would withdraw from Atiku’s ticket and campaign for Tinubu if petrol fell to N600 per litre. “If fuel comes down tomorrow to 600 I will campaign for President Tinubu,” he said.

Amaechi also criticised the government’s record on infrastructure and accused the administration of failing to demonstrate enough completed projects. In a separate part of the interview, he challenged the government to name a major project completed under Tinubu while comparing its record with that of the previous administration.

Amaechi was selected as Atiku’s running mate after the ADC presidential primary, where Atiku defeated him and other aspirants before the party announced the former Rivers governor as its vice-presidential candidate.

His latest comments add to the increasingly combative rhetoric surrounding the 2027 presidential contest, with the ADC ticket positioning itself against Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the January 16, 2027 election.
