The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ibadan North-East State Constituency 2 in the 2027 general elections, Hammed Taoreed Ademola, and Accord aspirant Adedapo Ojo have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State with more than 3,000 supporters.

The two politicians formally joined the APC on Friday at a ceremony held at a private facility along Old Ife Road, Ibadan, in a move that comes ahead of the 2027 elections. Multiple reports confirmed the defection and the participation of thousands of supporters.

Ademola, popularly known as Lucky, said his decision to leave the PDP followed his assessment of the political situation in Oyo State. He said he had reviewed the available political options before deciding to abandon the PDP ticket and join the APC.

“I did my due diligence and realised that any ticket outside the APC is a mere tissue paper that cannot take a candidate anywhere in 2027,” Ademola said.

He added that the defectors were joining the APC with a commitment to supporting the party and contributing to its activities.

Ojo, who was seeking the Accord ticket in the same constituency, also announced his decision to join the APC. He said efforts to develop Accord as a credible alternative had not produced the results he expected.

“We thought about making Accord a credible alternative in the state, but we later realised that the APC was far ahead of other parties,” Ojo said, adding that he considered his previous political efforts with the party unproductive.

The new members were received by the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo, who assured them of equal opportunities within the party. He urged the defectors to work with existing members and support the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, also welcomed the defectors and said an administration under his leadership would be inclusive if elected in 2027. He outlined proposed plans covering workers’ welfare, healthcare, infrastructure and the establishment of ICT hubs across parts of the state.

The event was attended by the APC deputy governorship candidate, Adesoji Adedeji, the party’s Oyo South Senatorial candidate, Aderemi Oseni, and other party leaders.
