The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has warned Nigerians against a fake recruitment notice circulating online in the name of the former Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
The warning was contained in a public notice titled “Fraudulent Recruitment Notice” issued by the NRS on Monday. The agency said the notice, titled “Federal Inland Revenue Service – FIRS Job Vacancy – Replacement,” had been circulating across social media and other online platforms.
The NRS said the recruitment advertisement did not originate from the agency and should be treated as fraudulent.
“The NRS wishes to state categorically that the notice is fraudulent and did not emanate from the Nigeria Revenue Service,” the Service said.
The agency also reminded members of the public that the FIRS had been succeeded by the Nigeria Revenue Service. It urged job seekers to be cautious of any recruitment announcement issued in the name of the former agency and to verify such information through official channels.
The NRS further clarified that it had neither authorised nor commenced the recruitment exercise referenced in the fake notice. It also said it had not appointed any individual, agent, consultant or third party to conduct recruitment on its behalf.
The Service advised Nigerians to disregard the fraudulent advertisement and exercise caution when responding to recruitment messages, online links or requests for personal information. Reports on the fake notice indicate that it directed applicants to submit details through an unauthorised email address.
The NRS stressed that any genuine recruitment exercise would be formally announced through its official website and authorised communication channels. Its official recruitment portal is currently hosted under the nrs.gov.ng domain.
The warning comes as online recruitment scams continue to target job seekers by impersonating government agencies and other organisations. The NRS urged members of the public to independently verify recruitment information before sharing personal documents or taking any action
