Lagos State has the highest number of registered voters in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, according to figures presented by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed the figures on Tuesday during the commission’s World Press Conference in Abuja as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

Lagos recorded 7,488,633 registered voters, placing it ahead of Kano State, which has 6,000,570 registered voters.

Kaduna State ranks third with 4,000,640 registered voters, while Katsina occupies fourth position with 3,876,051.

Oyo State is fifth on the list with 3,588,111 registered voters, followed by Delta State with 3,525,988.

Rivers State has 3,000,734 registered voters, while Benue State recorded 3,057,225, placing the two states among the states with more than three million registered voters.

Ogun State ranks ninth with 3,037,981 registered voters, while Bauchi completes the top 10 with 3,000,047.

The latest figures show that Lagos remains the state with the largest registered-voter population. INEC’s 2023 election report had also placed Lagos ahead of other states, with 7,060,195 registered voters at the time.

INEC is currently preparing for the 2027 general elections, with its official platform listing the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027.

The voter figures will be closely watched as political parties and candidates intensify mobilisation ahead of the elections, although registered voters do not necessarily represent actual turnout on election day.
