Amotekun Hands Over Four Operatives to Police Over Ile-Ife Killing

The Amotekun Corps in Osun State has clarified that four of its operatives were voluntarily handed over to the police for investigation into the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, in Ile-Ife.

The clarification followed reports that the operatives had been arrested by the Osun State Police Command in connection with the incident.

According to the corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the four operatives were made available to the police to help establish the circumstances surrounding Oyeyemi’s death and other attacks recorded during the violence.

The operatives are reportedly attached to Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Osun State.

Oyeyemi, an Accord chieftain, was killed during a clash at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on September 13, 2026. Following the incident, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke directed relevant authorities to investigate the killing and identify those responsible.

Oyeyemi was reportedly being considered for appointment as chairman of the Park Management System planned by the state government to take over the management of public motor parks from the NURTW.

Idowu said the decision to hand over the operatives was taken by the Corps Commander, High Chief Dr Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, in the interest of transparency, accountability and a thorough investigation.

He stressed that the police did not arrest the four operatives, but that they were voluntarily handed over so investigators could question them and establish what happened during the violence.

The corps urged the public and media practitioners to distinguish between an arrest and a voluntary handover for investigation.

Amotekun also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline and accountability, saying it would continue to cooperate with other security agencies in efforts to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
