The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and the display of the preliminary voters’ register as part of preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The seven-day exercise runs from Friday, October 9, to Thursday, October 15, 2026, giving registered voters an opportunity to collect available cards and verify their details ahead of the elections.

During the exercise, voters can check their names, photographs, dates of birth and polling-unit information on the preliminary register. They can also submit claims or objections if they identify errors or discrepancies in their records.

INEC said the PVCs available for collection under the exercise are those belonging to voters registered during the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, conducted between August and December 2025.

However, cards relating to subsequent registration phases, transfers, updates and replacements for lost or damaged PVCs are not yet available under the current exercise.

In Rivers State, the distribution and register display are taking place at designated registration-area centres across the state’s 23 local government areas.

Eligible voters have been advised to visit their designated centres to verify their details and confirm that their PVCs are available before travelling to collect them.

The register verification process is intended to help voters identify and correct errors before the electoral commission finalises the register for the 2027 general elections.

INEC’s exercise also provides an opportunity for registered voters to confirm that their personal information and polling-unit details are accurate, helping to reduce discrepancies that could affect their participation in the elections.

With preparations for the 2027 polls underway, voters are encouraged to take advantage of the exercise within the specified period and ensure their registration details are correct.
