American actor Selma Blair has been charged with assault following an alleged altercation aboard a flight from Los Angeles to New York City, according to court documents.

The Legally Blonde and Cruel Intentions star was detained at John F. Kennedy International Airport after her Delta Air Lines flight landed late Sunday, following reports of a physically abusive passenger.

US media reports alleged that Blair punched one flight attendant and bit another during the flight. She was also accused of assaulting a police officer and a nurse while being transported to hospital.

According to court documents, the 54-year-old actor was charged with two counts of second-degree assault relating to the alleged incidents involving the police officer and nurse at a New York state court on Monday.

Blair pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on bail. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 19.

FBI Also Issues Summons Over Alleged In-Flight Assault

In addition to the state charges, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a summons accusing Blair of assaults aboard the aircraft, according to a federal judicial source.

The allegations have not been established in court, and Blair has denied the two state charges by entering not-guilty pleas.

A representative for the actor said Blair had experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct.

“Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” the representative said.

The statement offered a medical explanation for the incident but did not provide further details about the nature of the emergency.

Delta Air Lines also addressed the incident, stressing its commitment to the safety of passengers and crew.

The airline said it had “zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.”

Blair Previously Spoke About Incident on a Flight

The latest incident has drawn attention to a previous episode involving Blair aboard an aircraft in 2016, when she was removed from a plane on a stretcher following an outburst.

In an interview with Vanity Fair after that incident, Blair said she had mixed alcohol with medication, which caused her to black out.

“I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret,” she said at the time.

The actor also wrote in her 2022 memoir about biting several celebrities, including Kate Moss, often in situations involving alcohol consumption.

Blair is known for her roles in films including Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde. The current case remains ongoing, with her next court hearing scheduled for January 19.
