Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing voter participation as an important way for citizens to demand change.

Atiku, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, made the appeal in a post on X on Wednesday, directing his message to Nigerians across different age groups amid concerns over economic hardship and insecurity.

He said many parents were struggling to provide food for their children, while pensioners faced difficulties purchasing essential items, including medicines and food.

The former vice president also expressed concern about the financial pressure on young Nigerians, saying many spend almost all their earnings on transportation, rent and other basic necessities.

Atiku further highlighted insecurity, alleging that many families live in fear of kidnapping and attacks. He argued that Nigerians should not have to endure hunger and insecurity simultaneously, warning that hardship should not become a burden inherited by future generations.

“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” he said.

The ADC presidential candidate’s appeal comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties and aspirants prepare for the next electoral cycle. His message emphasised the importance of obtaining voter cards and participating in the democratic process.

Atiku’s comments also placed economic conditions and public safety at the centre of his political message, urging Nigerians to use their voting rights to express their preferences and seek accountability from elected leaders.
