King Charles III is set to welcome Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said of Oman to the United Kingdom on Tuesday for a formal state visit featuring a grand royal procession and a banquet at Windsor Castle.
The British monarch and Queen Camilla will host the Omani ruler alongside Prince William and his wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, as working members of the royal family gather for the official engagements.
The highlight of the visit will be a state banquet in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle, where senior royals and other distinguished guests will attend the formal evening event.
Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are not expected to participate in the official engagements, as they are no longer working members of the royal family.
Ahead of the ceremonial welcome, Prince William will meet the Sultan at his residence and accompany him to Windsor on behalf of the King. Charles and Camilla will receive the visiting leader at a special dais in the town centre.
The Sultan will then join the King, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Catherine for a horse-drawn carriage procession through Windsor to the castle. The programme will include a formal welcome ceremony and an inspection of the Guard of Honour.
Beyond the royal ceremonies, the visit is expected to provide an opportunity for discussions on regional and international issues, particularly the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The Sultan is scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Andy Burnham at Downing Street on Wednesday. The two leaders previously met in July, when they discussed efforts to restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
During that meeting, Burnham reportedly expressed appreciation for Oman’s mediation efforts in the region, highlighting the Gulf nation’s diplomatic role amid regional tensions.
The visit also carries historical significance. The Sultan last visited King Charles at Windsor Castle in the summer of 2025 for tea and a private meeting.
The last state visit to Britain by an Omani sultan took place in 1982, when the late Queen Elizabeth II welcomed Sultan Qaboos bin Said, a cousin of the current ruler, to Buckingham Palace.
The latest visit is expected to strengthen diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Oman, building on longstanding ties between the two countries.
