Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria has confirmed Ayodeji Adelagun as its Chief Executive Officer following regulatory approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), formalising his appointment after several months in an acting capacity.
Adelagun has served as acting CEO since January 2026, following the departure of his predecessor, Dalu Ajene, who moved to lead the bank’s African operations.
With more than 26 years of experience in banking and financial markets, Adelagun has held several senior positions since joining Standard Chartered in 2007. His professional background covers financial markets, bond trading, treasury operations and banking management.
The bank’s priorities under his leadership include strengthening customer relationships, supporting businesses and investors, and connecting Nigerian companies with opportunities across Africa, Asia and other international markets.
Adelagun has also contributed to the development of Nigeria’s domestic financial markets, including initiatives aimed at deepening the country’s bond market.
His experience in financial markets and banking operations is expected to support the lender’s continued engagement with businesses, investors and other customers in Nigeria.
His confirmation comes as Standard Chartered continues to pursue growth opportunities in the country and strengthen its position in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
