The Executive Secretary of the Ekiti State Agency for Adult and Non-Formal Education, Modupe Falade, has urged adults and youths who lack basic literacy skills to enrol in educational programmes to improve their reading and writing abilities.

Falade described education as a powerful tool for socio-economic development, noting that access to quality mass education could help liberate people from ignorance and create opportunities for personal growth.

According to a statement by the agency made available in Ado Ekiti on Monday, she spoke during the graduation ceremony of 76 adult learners at the Basic Literacy Centre in Ekameta Local Council Development Area, Ikogosi-Ekiti.

She said the graduation was part of the efforts of the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to promote inclusive education and extend literacy opportunities to underserved members of the population.

Falade commended the Chairman of Ekameta LCDA, Adeniji Oluwaleye, and the council’s management for approving funds to sponsor the literacy centre.

She also appealed to residents who could read and write to encourage adults and youths without basic literacy skills to take advantage of available learning opportunities.

The executive secretary urged literate residents “to encourage illiterate adults and youths, including their neighbours and relatives, to enrol in literacy programmes.”

Addressing the graduands, Falade encouraged them to remain committed to learning and pursue further educational opportunities through post-literacy classes.

She also wished them success in their future endeavours.

Speaking on behalf of the graduands, Dorcas Akinyemi expressed appreciation to the Ekiti State Government and the LCDA chairman for providing them with the opportunity to acquire literacy skills.

Akinyemi assured that the graduates would remain committed to their academic pursuits.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of cash gifts by the LCDA chairman to learners who finished first, second and third in academic performance.
