Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has written to the State House of Assembly seeking approval to reappoint three commissioners who served in his first-term administration and appoint 10 Special Advisers.

The requests were disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Olayinka Oyebode.

According to the statement, Oyebanji made the requests in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly, Adeoye Aribasoye, on Monday.

The governor sought the screening and confirmation of Dayo Apata (SAN) as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Akintunde Oyebode as Commissioner for Finance, and Oyebanji Filani as Commissioner for Health and Human Services.

Oyebode said the proposed appointments were intended to enable the governor to constitute key parts of his administration early and ensure continuity in critical sectors.

The statement noted that while the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice is constitutionally required, the governor considers the finance and health portfolios essential to the effective take-off of his second term, particularly in view of prevailing developments in the country.

The governor’s spokesperson added that the requests formed part of efforts to sustain governance and strengthen service delivery across the state as the administration begins its second term.

Oyebanji’s second-term administration was inaugurated on October 16. Last week, he also approved appointments in the power, road infrastructure and transportation sectors.

The proposed commissioner appointments and the request to appoint 10 Special Advisers are subject to the relevant approval processes of the State House of Assembly.
