Mercy Aigbe Condemns Bloggers Over Coverage of Toluwanisings’ Burial Dispute

Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has criticised bloggers interviewing members of the family of late gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, amid an ongoing disagreement over his burial arrangements.

Aigbe accused some bloggers of escalating tensions between the deceased singer’s widow and his family instead of allowing them to grieve privately following his death.

In a post shared on her Instagram page, the actress questioned the apparent lack of compassion surrounding the dispute, asking whether people had lost their sense of humanity.

“Have we lost our sense of humanity? What happened to compassion?” she wrote.

The actress noted that Toluwanisings’ death had left behind a grieving wife and two young children who needed privacy, support and time to cope with their loss.

She argued that turning disagreements within the bereaved family into online content could worsen their distress, questioning why every family dispute had to become a subject of public entertainment.

“Must everything become content? Must every family disagreement become public entertainment?” Aigbe queried.

She urged bloggers and others covering the controversy to consider the emotional consequences of their actions and allow the family to navigate its grief with dignity.

“Whatever disagreements exist, can we allow this family some dignity and privacy to navigate their grief?” she added.

Aigbe further called for restraint, stressing that not every conflict required public attention and that some situations demanded sensitivity rather than publicity.

“Not every situation needs a microphone. Not every conflict needs an audience. And not every tragedy should become an opportunity for engagement. Sometimes, the most humane thing you can do is put the camera down,” she said.

Toluwanisings reportedly died on October 14, 2026, after slumping in Ibadan, Oyo State.

His death has since generated public debate, with members of his family reportedly calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it. The disagreement over his burial arrangements has also drawn attention to tensions between his widow and other family members.
