The manager of Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe, Mautin Tairu, has admitted that he has also grown frustrated with the actor’s recurring “igbotic” roles, following a fan’s call for him to take a break from the character type.

Tairu, popularly known as Mr M, made the admission while responding to an X user, R. Ekpedeme, who complained about Arukwe’s frequent shouting in such roles.

“Uzor needs to leave the igbotic roles for a while. I need a break from the shouting,” the fan wrote.

Responding to the comment, Tairu said he had shared the same feeling at some point but explained that business considerations often take priority over his personal preferences as the actor’s manager.

“As his manager, I’ve felt the same too at some point. However, business decisions take precedence over my personal preferences,” he said.

Tairu explained that the character type was more common in Arukwe’s YouTube projects because of audience preferences on the platform.

He added that the actor’s cinema projects did not feature the same recurring character portrayal, noting that the team adopted different approaches for different platforms to meet audience demand.

The exchange has drawn attention to the balance actors and their management teams must strike between audience expectations, creative variety and commercial decisions in Nigeria’s film industry.
