Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has called on Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to address the situation in the state, urging him to caution those around him and allow residents to live without undue pressure.

Yesufu made the call in a post on her verified X handle on Wednesday, where she cited former Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai as examples she believes Mbah should learn from.

The activist noted that Obaseki and El-Rufai occupied the positions Mbah currently holds in Enugu and that El-Rufai previously served as governor of Kaduna State.

She urged Mbah to reflect on the political experiences of the two former governors, suggesting that their circumstances offer lessons for public officeholders.

“Dear Governor Mbah, in 2022, Obaseki was once occupying the seat you are occupying in Enugu. So also was El-Rufai, occupying the same seat in Kaduna. Where are both today?” Yesufu wrote.

She further expressed her personal view that El-Rufai played a significant role in the emergence of President Bola Tinubu, while pointing to what she described as the treatment he is currently facing.

“I personally believe that El-Rufai was one of the most instrumental persons who helped Tinubu to be where he is not supposed to be, but see what is being done to him,” she stated.

Yesufu concluded her message by calling on the Enugu governor to intervene in the situation and ensure that the people of the state are allowed to go about their lives without undue interference.

“Let Enugu people breathe. Call your people to order,” she wrote.

Her comments placed the spotlight on the responsibilities of political leaders and the lessons that former officeholders’ experiences may hold for those currently in power.
