Police Arrest NSCDC Officer Over Alleged Gunfire at Kubwa Market in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly firing gunshots into the air during a confrontation with traders at Kubwa Market in Abuja.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 25, 2026, at about 1:50 p.m., following a distress call to the police over sporadic gunshots at the market.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development in a post on X on Wednesday, police operatives responded to the report and arrested the officer, identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the NSCDC.

Preliminary investigations reportedly indicated that Samuel went to the market armed with a pistol after receiving reports that some traders had assaulted his wife.

During the ensuing confrontation with the traders, the officer allegedly fired several shots into the air, prompting the intervention of security operatives.

Makama reported that a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

The NSCDC officer remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court after investigations are concluded, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged officers of sister security agencies operating in the territory to coordinate with local police divisions before carrying out operations.

Sanusi emphasised the need for effective inter-agency cooperation and proper coordination to prevent incidents that could threaten residents’ safety and disrupt public peace.
