12 Killed, Including Police Inspector, in Suspected Terrorist Attacks on Kebbi Communities

At least 12 people, including a police inspector, have been killed in separate attacks on communities in Kebbi State, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region.

The attacks, blamed on suspected Mamudawa and Lakurawa terrorists, reportedly occurred on October 26 and 28 across the Karwa, Kestu and Waiwayi areas of Koko-Besse Local Government Area.

According to the Kebbi State Police Command, five people were killed during the first attack, while another seven, including a police inspector, lost their lives in the subsequent assault.

The attackers reportedly set houses and motorcycles on fire, looted shops and forced residents to abandon their communities amid fears of further violence.

Police spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, confirmed the incidents, saying joint security teams had been deployed to the affected areas. He added that efforts were underway to track down and arrest those responsible.

The Commissioner of Police has also directed security personnel to intensify search-and-rescue operations and carry out confidence-building measures to reassure residents.

Investigations into the attacks are ongoing, while displaced residents remain uncertain about their safety and when they will be able to return to their homes.
