A police inspector has been killed at the residence of Imo State Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Rex Anunobi, with two suspects arrested in connection with the incident.
The Imo State Police Command said the incident occurred on September 14, 2026, at the commissioner’s residence.
The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying two men were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
The suspects were identified as Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Mourice, 25.
“Following the report, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, psc(+), mnips, directed a thorough investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring those responsible to justice,” the statement said.
Following the directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), alongside the Divisional Police Officer of New Owerri Division, visited the scene.
Police said necessary examinations were conducted while relevant exhibits recovered from the scene were secured for investigation. The remains of the deceased inspector were subsequently deposited at a mortuary.
The case has since been transferred to the SCID for further investigation, while the command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who may still be at large.
The Commissioner of Police directed the investigating team to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
