President Bola Tinubu has prayed for wisdom and resilience to continue leading Nigeria, expressing confidence that his administration is laying a solid foundation for national prosperity despite the challenges facing the country.
Tinubu made the remarks on Monday after performing prayers at the Holy Mosque in Ka’aba, Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he thanked Almighty Allah for granting him good health and the opportunity to undertake the spiritual exercise.
Speaking with journalists after the prayers, the President said he was grateful for the experience and prayed that Nigeria’s diverse religious and cultural identities would become a source of national prosperity rather than division.
“The prayer is for Allah to convert our diversity. Nigeria is full of diversity. It is made up of all the faiths. May Allah convert all the diversity to prosperity for the country. That is my prayer,” he said.
Tinubu disclosed that his personal prayers centred on obtaining the wisdom and strength needed to continue serving Nigerians. He expressed confidence that his request had been granted, adding that his commitment to the country’s development remained strong.
“Well, I asked for wisdom and resilience to continue to serve the people. I know that has been granted,” the President said.
He also recalled undertaking a similar spiritual exercise before the 2023 presidential election, when he prayed for a successful Umrah and promised to return to Mecca to express his gratitude if his request was granted. Tinubu said his election as President was a favour from God and stressed that political power must be exercised responsibly.
The President further urged Nigerians to put God first, listen to their consciences and follow the right path towards national development. He said his administration remained committed to pursuing prosperity in line with his faith and the aspirations of the people.
On the economy, Tinubu maintained that Nigeria was gradually recovering from its difficulties, insisting that the foundation established by his administration was strong and that ongoing reforms were producing encouraging results. He also emphasised the importance of investing in young people to secure the country’s future.
Tinubu thanked the Saudi authorities for granting him access to the Ka’aba, describing the experience as historic. He expressed optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through faith, determination and the support of its citizens.
