Ghana Police Arrest Three Nigerians Over Alleged Bank Customer Robberies in Kumasi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities.

The suspects were identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, 35. A fourth alleged member of the group, identified as Chinedu, also known as Alhaji, is reportedly on the run.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

According to the police, the operation was carried out at about 11:30 p.m. on October 31 by an IGP’s Special Team comprising officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.

The operation followed intelligence reports about the alleged activities of the syndicate.

Police said two of the suspects, Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka, were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo. A search of their rooms reportedly led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.

During interrogation, the two suspects allegedly admitted involvement in the robberies and identified two other accomplices, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, and Kingsley, alias KC.

The police subsequently arrested Kingsley at another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, after the suspects reportedly led officers to the location.

However, Chinedu remains at large, with the police appealing to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in his arrest.

The command urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station or contact the police through emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the alleged syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers withdrawing large sums of money and followed them before attacking and robbing them.

The suspects were also accused of using a master key to break into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers and steal cash kept inside.

The police further disclosed that the three arrested suspects allegedly admitted robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also reportedly confessed to similar robberies around the At-onsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi.

The three suspects have been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the police have advised bank customers to remain vigilant, watch out for suspicious individuals around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or other valuables inside unattended vehicles.

The command also commended residents for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities across the region.
