Super Eagles Face Injury Concern as Moses Usor Suffers Scare Ahead of Tanzania AFCON Qualifiers

Nigeria’s preparations for their upcoming 2026 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers have suffered a potential setback after Super Eagles forward Moses Usor sustained an injury scare during LASK’s 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Usor was substituted in the 75th minute after reportedly picking up an injury. However, LASK have yet to confirm the severity of the problem or how long the Nigerian forward could be sidelined, with his condition expected to become clearer following a medical assessment.

The 24-year-old had earlier played a part in LASK’s opening goal, delivering the corner that Kasper Jørgensen converted with a header in the 19th minute at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz. Jørgensen later added another goal, while Samuel Adeniran completed the scoring as the Austrian side secured a convincing win.

The result marked LASK’s second victory in four UEFA Champions League league-phase matches, taking them to 15th position with six points. Slovan Bratislava, who played without supporters following a UEFA disciplinary sanction, have now lost all four of their matches.

LASK’s next fixture is an away trip to Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday, November 24, but the immediate concern for Nigerian football fans is whether Usor will recover in time for the Super Eagles’ upcoming international assignments.

Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to name his squad in the coming days ahead of Nigeria’s two-legged AFCON qualifying encounter against Tanzania. The Super Eagles will host the East African side in Uyo on Friday, November 13, before travelling to Dar es Salaam for the return fixture on Tuesday, November 17.

Usor is among the newer additions to the national team setup. He made an immediate impression on his debut on September 25, scoring the winning goal after coming on as a substitute against Madagascar in Uyo.

His recent club performances have also strengthened his case for a place in the national team, having recorded 15 goals and five assists in 35 competitive appearances for LASK last season.

With Nigeria looking to strengthen their position in the qualifying campaign, Chelle will be hoping the injury is not serious. The Super Eagles currently have three points from two matches, six behind group leaders Guinea-Bissau.
