Nigeria’s U17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have made history by reaching the final of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time after defeating Brazil 3-1 in their semi-final encounter.

The Nigerian youngsters produced an impressive performance, with Queen Joseph and Awawu Bashiru leading the attack to secure a memorable victory and move within one match of winning their first world title.

Joseph broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, giving Nigeria the advantage after a closely contested opening period. Her goal lifted the team and put Brazil under pressure as the Flamingos pushed for a place in the final.

Nigeria doubled their lead in the 71st minute when Bashiru found the back of the net. The forward struck again in the 80th minute to complete her brace and give the Nigerian side a commanding 3-1 lead.

Brazil managed to score, but the Flamingos held on to their advantage and secured a historic victory over the South American side.

The achievement represents a significant step forward for Nigeria’s U17 women’s football team. The Flamingos previously claimed bronze at the 2022 edition of the tournament, but this latest success guarantees them a place in the competition’s final for the first time.

Nigeria will now face Japan in the final, where they will attempt to claim their maiden FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title and bring the trophy home.

With history already made, the Flamingos have one more challenge ahead as they prepare for a potentially landmark moment in Nigerian women’s football.
