A dispatch rider has died following a collision involving a trailer along Ogunnusi Road in the Ojodu area of Lagos State.
The accident occurred late Wednesday opposite Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry (CLAM) Church, leaving the rider with fatal head injuries.
A visit to the scene by a reporter showed the victim’s lifeless body lying on the road, with visible injuries and blood around his head. Sympathisers, residents and other motorists gathered at the scene following the incident.
The deceased was later evacuated from the scene for further necessary procedures. A Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official was reportedly involved in the operation and conveyed the body to a police station around Grammar School.
An eyewitness reportedly blamed the dispatch rider for the collision. However, the circumstances surrounding the crash could not be independently established as of the time of filing this report.
The trailer driver was also said to have fled shortly after the accident, leaving the victim behind.
A towing vehicle subsequently arrived to remove the trailer involved in the crash and clear the road, allowing traffic to resume along the busy route.
The incident attracted attention from residents and passers-by, many of whom expressed concern over the fatal outcome.
The identity of the deceased and an official statement from the relevant authorities were not available at the time of filing this report.
The circumstances surrounding the collision are expected to be investigated by the police to establish what led to the rider’s death.
The tragedy has renewed concerns about the safety of dispatch riders and other vulnerable road users who share Lagos roads with heavy-duty vehicles.
