The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, with work scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026, and motorists advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion.
The rehabilitation will cover the stretch from Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre to Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ. The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the plan in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15.
According to the advisory, a contraflow arrangement will be introduced on the Lagos-bound side of the road, between Samuel Manuwa Street and Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre, while rehabilitation work is carried out on the opposite lane. The government said the arrangement would help maintain traffic movement throughout the project.
Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp or Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link Bishop Aboyade Cole Street. They can then access the expressway through School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.
For motorists travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street, the advisory directs them through IMB to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Street, towards Eko Hotel Roundabout. From there, they should proceed through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Drivers leaving Bonny Camp have also been advised to use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. They can then proceed via Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis towards Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street, en route to Black Diamond School Corner.
The advisory further stated that motorists travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre would be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield. Those exiting through the 1004 gate would be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield. Motorists heading from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi are advised to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and proceed towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to coordinate vehicle movement, manage congestion and minimise inconvenience during the rehabilitation. He urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements.
