Welsh Mother, 40, Dies With Unborn Baby After Pregnancy Complications in Nigeria

A 40-year-old Welsh woman, identified as Claire, has died alongside her unborn baby girl in Nigeria after suffering severe medical complications at 37 weeks of pregnancy.

Claire reportedly developed complications that led to the death of her unborn daughter in the womb. Her condition subsequently deteriorated after she developed sepsis, eventually resulting in septic shock.

The mother had been living in Nigeria for several years after relocating from Wales to be with her husband. Together, the couple built a following of thousands on TikTok, where they shared videos about their daily experiences, religious faith and local food challenges.

Claire’s sister, Shannon, described her as a lively, outspoken and strong-minded woman who enjoyed dancing and making people laugh.

“She was funny, loved dancing and being silly, and never particularly cared what anyone thought of her,” Shannon said.

“She was fiercely strong-minded, always stood up for what she believed in and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind,” she added.

Claire is survived by her husband, extended family members and her 19-year-old son, who lives in Wales.

Following the tragedy, her relatives in South Wales have launched an online fundraising appeal to cover the costs of repatriating Claire and her baby daughter so they can be buried back home.

The appeal has reportedly received more than £10,000 in donations from well-wishers seeking to support the family during the difficult period.

Shannon said the family was working against time to bring the bodies home and urged more people to share the fundraising appeal.

“Timing is crucial with this situation so the more we share now the better chance we have of bringing Claire home to get the send off she deserves,” she said.

The family continues to seek support to complete the repatriation arrangements and give Claire and her daughter a final farewell in Wales.
