The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, for allegedly stabbing his 21-year-old neighbour, Haggai Markus, to death during a disagreement over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroji, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, saying the incident occurred at Mararaban Vimtim on November 4, 2026, at about 8pm.
According to the police, the disagreement reportedly started after Markus and Augustine had an argument over roasted meat taken from a butcher’s table.
Nguroji said the situation escalated when Augustine allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed Markus in the chest.
“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest,” the police spokesperson stated.
He added that the victim’s father, identified as Markus Gabo, reported the incident to the police at about 8:45pm on the same day.
Following the report, operatives attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters visited the scene and found Markus lying dead in a pool of blood.
The police recovered a sharp knife suspected to have been used in the attack and arrested Augustine, who was subsequently taken into custody. Photographs of the scene were also taken, while the victim’s body was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.
The command said the suspect and the case diary would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabir Hassan, commiserated with the victim’s family and assured residents that justice would be served.
He also urged members of the public to resolve disagreements peacefully and report disputes to the police rather than resorting to violence.
The incident comes days after reports emerged that a farmer, Samson Gabriel, was allegedly hacked to death by his neighbour, Lekan Oyebamiji, following a disagreement over money in Akinlalu, Osun State.
Residents said the killing triggered tension in the community, with some people reportedly leaving their homes over fears of possible police arrests. A resident alleged that Oyebamiji attacked Gabriel with a machete during the argument.
