ADC Chieftain Petitions EU Commission Over Alleged Tinubu Certificate Forgery, Constitutional Breach

An African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain and lawyer, Kalu Kalu, has petitioned the European Union Commission in Brussels over allegations against President Bola Tinubu, including claims of certificate forgery and violations of Nigeria’s constitutional order.

Kalu submitted the petition on Friday, alleging that Tinubu presented false academic credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also accused the President of failing to disclose details of his primary and secondary education, which he argued amounts to a breach of the requirements contained in Section 137 of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Speaking after submitting the petition, Kalu said his complaint was aimed at drawing international attention to what he described as the alleged subversion of Nigeria’s constitutional system.

According to Kalu, submitting false certificates to INEC would have constitutional implications for eligibility to contest an election. He therefore urged the European Union to take note of his allegations against the Nigerian president.

Kalu further claimed that Tinubu had weakened constitutional checks in Nigeria by allegedly using the powers of his office to maintain control over the country’s political system.

“He did this because of his forged academic credentials, where he submitted to INEC for the 2027 general elections,” Kalu alleged.

The allegations contained in the petition have not been independently established, and the submission to the EU Commission does not by itself constitute a finding against the President. Tinubu has previously faced controversies over his educational records and eligibility, which have also featured in legal and political debates in Nigeria.
