
Shock and grief swept through Nigeria’s entertainment industry on Wednesday after the family of popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo confirmed his death following a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
The actor, widely known for his roles in romantic dramas and comedy films, reportedly died at Evercare Hospital in Lagos after suffering complications linked to the illness. His family announced the development in a statement shared via his official Instagram page.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, son, brother, and friend, Alexx Ikenna Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement read.
The family disclosed that the actor fought the disease with “remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and enduring hope,” despite the severity of his condition. They added that he remained optimistic through his final days, believing he would eventually recover and share his testimony publicly.
The news has triggered an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and public figures across the Nigerian entertainment industry, many describing the actor as charismatic, humble, and deeply passionate about his craft.
Over the years, Ekubo built a strong reputation in Nollywood with appearances in numerous blockbuster productions, earning recognition for his screen presence and versatility. His career also extended beyond acting, with appearances as a model, brand ambassador, and television personality.
