Arsenal supporters from across Nigeria are expected to converge on Abuja on October 17 for a programme combining football activities, community service and efforts to expand the club’s grassroots following in the country.
The two-day event, organised by Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria, will feature the association’s official unveiling, its second Annual General Meeting (AGM), a market sanitation campaign and recreational football activities.
The association’s National President, Charles Ojugbana, disclosed the plans in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday. He said the programme would bring together members from different states and city chapters to strengthen the organisation and promote support for Arsenal Football Club.
According to Ojugbana, activities will begin on Friday with the AGM, where members will review the association’s affairs and discuss plans for its future. Saturday’s programme will feature aerobics, a novelty football match and a sanitation campaign at Wuse Market.
As part of its community service efforts, the association plans to donate industrial refuse bins and other sanitation materials to the market union to encourage environmental cleanliness. Ojugbana said the initiative reflected the club’s charitable objectives, including support for vulnerable, disadvantaged and less-privileged members of society.
He added that the association draws inspiration from Nigerian footballers associated with Arsenal, including former Super Eagles forward Nwankwo Kanu and current players Bukayo Saka, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze. The organisation aims to improve the experience of supporters and broaden Arsenal’s following across Nigeria.
The unveiling is expected to attract prominent supporters and public figures, including former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, Senator Dino Melaye and Kanu, alongside business leaders and other celebrities.
Ojugbana said Arsenal Fans Club Nigeria operates through a Board of Trustees, a National Executive Committee and a General Assembly, which serves as its highest decision-making body. The association hopes the Abuja gathering will strengthen relationships among members and expand its activities across the country.
Beyond the October programme, the association plans to organise an awareness campaign for children with Down syndrome in March 2027 to coincide with World Down Syndrome Day. The initiative forms part of its broader community outreach plans.
