Arsenal Keen on Julian Alvarez, But Barcelona Dream Could Block Transfer

Arsenal remain interested in signing Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, but the Premier League club is waiting for a clear signal from the Argentina international before making a formal move.

The Gunners are reportedly confident they can reach an agreement with Atletico over a transfer fee for the 26-year-old forward. However, Alvarez’s own preference could determine whether the deal goes ahead.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation but would only submit a bid if Alvarez becomes open to joining the club.

“Arsenal remain attentive to Julián Álvarez situation and internal feeling is they can reach an agreement with Atlético on the fee,” Romano wrote on X.

He added that Arsenal would only make an offer if Alvarez “decides to open doors to the move”, stressing that the player’s position remains the key factor in the situation.

For now, Alvarez is reportedly still focused on staying in LaLiga and has Barcelona as his preferred destination. That leaves Arsenal needing to convince the striker before attempting to negotiate a deal with Atletico.

The situation could therefore come down to Alvarez’s next decision, with Arsenal seemingly prepared to pursue the transfer if the forward changes his stance and gives the move the green light.
