Arsenal Set to Break Club Record With £60m Gabriel Martinelli Sale to Al Hilal

Arsenal are closing in on what could become the biggest player sale in the club’s history, with Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal negotiating a deal worth around £60 million for Gabriel Martinelli.

Al Hilal have made formal contact with Arsenal over the Brazilian winger, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that Martinelli has given the Saudi club the green light as he considers a move away from the Emirates.

The 25-year-old has emerged as Al Hilal’s preferred option ahead of Portugal internationals Pedro Neto and Francisco Conceição. The Saudi club’s interest comes after Martinelli rejected a move to Galatasaray, despite the Turkish side being prepared to offer about £45 million.

A £60 million agreement would represent a major financial boost for Arsenal and set a new club record for the sale of a player. The current record is the £35 million received from Liverpool for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2017.

Arsenal’s other notable high-value sale was Nicolas Anelka’s move to Real Madrid in 2000 for €35 million. Martinelli’s proposed transfer would therefore comfortably surpass both deals if the negotiations are completed at the reported figure.

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Brazilian club Ituano in 2019 and developed into an important attacking player at the Emirates. His pace, direct running and ability to operate from the left wing made him a key part of the squad during his time at the club.

However, his position within Arsenal’s plans has changed as the club continues to reshape its squad. With Al Hilal now pushing strongly for his signature, the proposed £60 million deal could bring an end to Martinelli’s Arsenal career while setting a new benchmark for the club in the transfer market.
