Bauchi Police Arrest Man Over Alleged Defilement of Eight-Month-Old Stepdaughter

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a man, Balarabe Adamu, over the alleged sexual abuse of his eight-month-old stepdaughter in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

The incident was reported to the police on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 5:34 p.m. Adamu, who lives in Lame, Toro LGA, was accused of defiling the infant after she was brought to his residence by his wife.

Police operatives from the Gumau Division responded to the report and arrested the suspect shortly afterwards. He remains in custody as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the allegation.

Following the reported incident, the baby was taken to the General Hospital, Toro, where she was examined and received medical treatment.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged abuse, describing the reported act as unacceptable. He said the Command would carry out a thorough investigation and prosecute the suspect if the allegation is established.

“The case will be thoroughly investigated and the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion, in accordance with the law,” the commissioner said.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on sexual violence and child abuse. He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to remain alert and report suspected cases of abuse promptly to the nearest police station.

The Command said it would provide further information on the case as the investigation progresses.
