The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a woman, Fatima Ibrahim, over the death of her six-year-old stepson, Mubarak Ibrahim, in Kwaimawa community, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafi’u Habib, disclosed this to journalists on Monday, saying the child allegedly began vomiting uncontrollably shortly after drinking a beverage reportedly given to him by the suspect.
According to Habib, the family initially rushed the boy to the Primary Health Care Centre in Kwaimawa before transferring him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, for further treatment.
He said medical personnel battled to save the child’s life for eight days, but Mubarak was confirmed dead on October 24, 2026.
The police spokesman explained that the investigation began after the village head of Kwaimawa reported the incident to the authorities, prompting detectives to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Habib added that Fatima had been taken into police custody as investigations continued.
The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described the incident as heartbreaking and inhumane, assuring the bereaved family that the command would pursue justice.
The police have yet to disclose further details about the investigation or establish the exact cause of the child’s death.
