The husband of a woman allegedly killed by her co-wife in Bauchi State has been hospitalised after reportedly suffering trauma following the incident.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the development while responding to questions about the latest update on the case.
Habib did not disclose details about the man’s condition but confirmed that he was receiving medical treatment following the incident.
The police spokesperson also said investigations were ongoing and that the case would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
The deceased was identified as Jamila Adamu, who was allegedly attacked by her co-wife, 33-year-old Hauwa’u Haruna, at their residence in Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi.
According to Habib, the two women, who lived in the same house, had reportedly been involved in repeated disagreements before the incident.
The police said detectives attached to the C-Division were mobilised to the residence after receiving a report. Investigators alleged that Haruna, who was the second wife, acted amid what police described as hallucinations before striking Jamila on the forehead with a pestle.
The attack allegedly caused Jamila to lose consciousness. She was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor pronounced her dead.
“The scene was documented, and the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Habib said.
The suspect was arrested, while the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit, according to the police.
The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution. The allegations against the suspect have not been established in court.
