Borno CAN Urges Government to Build Worship Centres for Christian Students, More Cemeteries

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, has called on the state government to provide worship centres for Christian students in tertiary institutions across the state.

The association also appealed for additional Christian cemeteries and the fencing of existing graveyards in the Dala and Maximum Prison areas of Maiduguri.

CAN Secretary, Senior Apostle Joshua Akeredolu Michael, made the requests during a town hall meeting on the 2027 budget organised by the Borno State Ministry of Budget in Maiduguri.

Michael said the provision of worship centres in government-owned tertiary institutions would enable Christian students to participate in religious services more conveniently while pursuing their education.

He also highlighted the shortage of Christian burial grounds in Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Area, noting that existing cemeteries were no longer sufficient to meet the community’s needs.

According to him, establishing additional burial grounds would help address the situation, while fencing existing cemeteries would improve their security and protection.

The CAN secretary urged the state government to consider the requests as part of its priorities during the preparation and implementation of the 2027 budget.

Michael added that the association would document other concerns raised by Christians across the state and submit them to the government for consideration.

The appeal places religious facilities, burial infrastructure and the needs of Christian communities among the issues CAN wants the Borno State Government to address through its forthcoming budget
