Burna Boy Breaks Spotify Record, Becomes Most-Streamed African Artist in Monthly Listeners

Nigerian Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy has set a new milestone on Spotify after becoming the African artist with the highest monthly listeners in the platform’s history.

The ‘African Giant’ star recently reached 46.84 million monthly listeners, surpassing the previous African record of 46.58 million held by South African music sensation Tyla.

Burna Boy has continued to build on that achievement and now boasts 47.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify, putting him on course to become the first African artist to cross the 50 million monthly listeners mark on the global streaming platform.

The remarkable increase in streams has been largely driven by his World Cup collaboration with Shakira, titled Dai Dai.

The track recently climbed to No. 1 on the Spotify Global Top Songs chart, marking another historic moment in Burna Boy’s career and reinforcing his growing influence in international music.

The achievement also makes Burna Boy the first African artist to top Spotify’s Global Top Songs chart since Wizkid reached the summit through his collaboration with Drake on One Dance in 2016.

Burna Boy’s latest accomplishment adds to a string of global records and milestones that have cemented his place among Africa’s biggest music exports, as Afrobeats continues to enjoy unprecedented worldwide success.
